Craft Beer & Writing | NaNoWriMo Location

Here at Final Draft Taphouse, we encourage people to tell stories, write stories, create stories, film stories, and/or share stories how ever you choose! The power of stories is great! Storytelling is the oldest form of making connections and making sense of the world around us!

Stories have always been naturally told at pubs, bars, and we are very intentionally about creating a taphouse where people can share their stories. One of the ways we do that is with our writing group Brews ‘N Write-In. On a monthly basis on the first Monday of each month, we host a Brews ‘N Write-In meet up event. Writers of all kinds are invited to come and write together while having a pint! It’s a casual setting but the writers write! We do this because we understand just how hard it is find time to write, so this write-in group is meant to encourage people to write and come together and meet other writers!

What do craft beer and writing have in common? Well, for one, they are two of Final Draft’s co-owner Kimberly’s loves! Second, they are both forms of art and bring people together! One thing that we are doing for the month of November is being a “Come Write In” Location for NaNoWriMo! One our your Brews N Write-In regular attendees/writers is a faithful NaNoWriMo writer and brought it up to the group a few months back. Encouraging everyone to consider the challenge, several of the Brews N Write-In have decided to commit to writing every day in November. Therefore, we have decided to become an official NaNoWriMo Location. What does that mean for us? That means you are welcome to come and write anytime in our taphouse during the month of November. In addition, if we don’t have events planned, the backroom at the taphouse will be open to NaNoWriMo writers. In addition, we will have our specific Brews N Write In as we always do on November 5. We hope you will join us in writing whether it be just on November 5 or throughout the month. Happy Writing!

Thank you! NorthBank Champion Award

Thursday, Oct. 11, Northbank Brewers Alliance presented us with the ‘NorthBank Champion’ trophy. The trophy is an annual award honoring 3 local taprooms in response to a single question survey of the breweries: “Which taproom does the best to support SW Washington Beer?” Each brewery has 1 vote and the public Facebook vote accounted for 1.5 votes in the event of a tie.

We were completely surprised! Mike and I were both working behind the bar, and we starting noticing many of our craft beer friends (industry friends) were arriving. We were so grateful to see everyone but honestly just thought they were meeting up for meetings and/or pints together. About an hour into to noticing, next thing you know, Mike DiFabio of Fortside Brewing, a member of the NorthBank Brewers Alliance, came up to the bar with the trophy and made the announcement. We were totally surprised and taken aback. Everyone cheered, we said a few words and there may have been some tears along with it!

We are very grateful to be recognized by the Northbank brewers and North Bank craft beer community! We love this community and supporting local craft beer. We believe in SW Washington and what the breweries are doing to make this a great place to live, work, and share life with others. We work very hard running our taphouse and want to make it a place where everyone is welcome, and we can highlight local, independent craft beer! To be recognized for doing what you love is very rewarding! Thank you to everyone who voted for us! We are in very good company, and we are proudly displaying our award in our taproom!

2nd place was Hockinson Market joined by 3Peaks Public House and Taproom for 3rd. All three taprooms are engraved on the award for 2018!

North Bank Craft Beer Brings Home Medals from GABF

At the Great American Beer Festival last weekend (Sept. 20-23), three North Bank breweries took home medals for their award-winning craft beers. Loowit Brewing won Bronze for their Shimmergloom Imperial Stout. Grains of Wrath scored a bronze for their Vienna Lager. And 54-40 Brewing in Washougal, Wa. earned Silver for their flagship Kolsch, Cascadia Kolsch. This is an amazing accomplishment for these breweries and for the North Bank (North Bank of the Columbia River).

We will be celebrating these breweries and the brewers on October 4 from 6:30-9 pm. We will be featuring their medal-winning craft beer on draft and the brewers will be in the (tap)house!

Come and try their craft beer, meet the brewers, and give them a cheers for their accomplishments!

Couve Brew Bevy & Our First Bevy on the Road

Our brew-loving ladies group Couve Brew Bevy had our first outing for what we are calling "Bevy on the Road." We volunteered at the recent Vancouver Brewfest in Esther Short park and poured craft beer for all those fest-goers to enjoy in Vancouver, Wa. Seventeen ladies volunteered and shared their passion of craft beer with fest goers, talked beer with craft beer lovers and novices alike, and then got the chance to hang out together after volunteering! This dynamic group of women who love beer are amazing and awesome and funny and kind and really make Couve Brew Bevy special!

A huge thank you goes out to .....(L to R in the photo below)...Hayley, Rachel, Amanda, Alicia, Annie, Ramona, Kimberly, Amy, Carol, Missy, Jenny, Lindsay, Tracy, Jovana! Back row - Honorary Bevy Ladies - Thank you for coming and volunteering with us ....Joann Mueller, Pam Suttle, and Cheryl Hamilton!

A special extra thank you goes to Rachel, Annie and Missy for photos of the group, and to Amy and her small but mighty team of ladies who made pretzel necklaces to share with the ladies at the fest and to Michelle Svendsen of North Jetty Brewing for sporting her Couve Brew Bevy t-shirt while rocking it the keg toss....she took second place and was the only lady tossing!
